Benjamin Franklin once said, “Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards”. Shakespeare wrote the romantic comedy play, “The Taming of the Shrew” which consists of an induction and five acts. The play begins by telling a story of Christopher Sly who is drunk and is found by a lord who plays a trick on him. Sly wakes up, everyone acts as if he is the lord but Sly insist he is not until he sees his wife and Sly quickly wants to go to sleep with her. Lucentio, son of Vincentio from Pisa, arrived at Padua to start his studies. At first sight he falls in love with Bianca, the daughter of Baptista, who is looking for a wealthy son-in-law. Baptitsta wants to find a husband for his older daughter Katherina before Bianca can marry. Katherina has no admirers and she is defiant. Hortensio wants to wed Bianca so he sets up Petruchio with Katherina and they get married. After the marriage, Petruchio treats Katherina in a dominant way and gives her a hard time to tame her. After that her sister, Bianca gets many proposals for marriage from Hortensio and Gremio but she selects Lucentio. Before the engagement, Baptista makes Lucentio sign a prenuptial agreement. Lucentio gets someone to act as his father and sign the papers. At the marriage, Vincentio, his real father arrives and the real father gets arrested but later Lucentio tells the truth. Hortensio ends up marrying a wealthy widow. At the end of the play, all three husbands see who has the most obedient…
