LET Task 317.1.5-03-05

By: Charles Lewis 06/2014 First Class Printing, established in 1977, has been a leader in the commercial printing industry since its inception. Hitting its peak in the nineties, the company started a slow downward cycle because of poor execution and growing competition in the industry. After cycling through a couple of different CEO's, Bill Parsons stepped in and turned the troubled company around. Mr. Parsons has been responsible for not only getting the company back to its position among the top of the industry, but also for creating record sustained growth. He values the leadership of Mr. Parsons as well, believing in the missions and goals set forth by Mr. Parsons. He encourages his team to put aside their own goals for the good of the company. He believes that great successes can be achieved when people are inspired and passionate about an idea. Mr. Toole has high standards for his team and tries to instill a sense of corporate pride in his subordinates. He values rational problem solving and prefers that his team see him as a mentor or coach rather than as a manager. The leadership style of all three of these leaders is different yet could be equally effective. Mr. Parsons would be considered a “level 5” leader. His knack for accepting responsibility for the companies failures and crediting his subordinates for its successes identifies him as such. It is also proven by his reputation as being highly motivated to make the company succeed. His leadership is based on an intense drive to succeed with a large dose of humility for failures. Mr. Hawkins would be considered a transactional leader. His belief in a clear chain of command and his belief that subordinates are responsible for the success or failure of the tasks he gives them identifies him as such. Mr. Toole would be considered a transformational leader. His use of inspirational motivation is an indicator of his leadership style. Also,
