Smart phones are utilized in business and personal use. Smart phones are being used personally to keep in contact with families and friends and to assist in school work. The purpose of this report is to show how smart phones have advanced from a personal device to a device utilized by businesses to increase their efficiency and profitability.

Today’s smart phones are powerful enough to deliver 95 percent of the functionality of typical information a worker needs during the course of a workday. The need to be tethered to a PC could become a thing of the past sooner than you think. The demand from customers and suppliers will push corporations toward adopting smart phone technology strategies.

Today there are a wide range of smart phones ranging from the androids to blackberrys to the iphone. Based on the type of operating system/device that is preferred by the customer will determine what kinds of apps, tools, and attributes are obtainable through the chosen device. These devices can offer a wide range of apps from social networking to sports to business and finance. The best attribute to the any type of cell phone is the Bluetooth. This phenomenal “hand free” accessory enables people to conduct business while performing other tasks as well. It is ultimately the definition of “multi tasking”.

Running a company with a smart phone allows its operations to be more efficient. An example would be Lloyd’s Construction in Eagan, Minnesota. Years ago a construction company might not seem as if it would need this type of software. This $9 million a year demolition and carting company is a privately help small business that has been in business for 24 years. Lloyd’s takes down commercial and residential buildings then hauls them away. Their business model would make someone think this is a simple business. A company of 100 employees, 30 trucks, and more than 400 dumpsters is not simple. Coordinating those moving parts is crucial to growing the business.
