“To be a human is an amazing feat of both the universe, and to most, God” The opening line that I used on the first day of class for what would become part one of the analytical paper. Having learned abundant amounts of new information over the last three and a half months, my original idea on what it means to be human still feels correct. The three majors themes throughout the semester have been how ideas can change over time, the role of technological advancements in change, and how humans have evolved alongside these advancements and societal changes. The unit on time had the most importance in expressing these three themes. Time affects everything in a humans life from the second they are born to the second they die. Religion can change how one views time, whether cyclically or linearly. This can greatly affect what choices you as a human make in everyday life. Epicurus said “it’s pointless to fear death, either you exist or you don’t.”(Unit 1, 7/6) The thought of either existing or not existing can be a lot for the human mind to handle. Just not existing anymore once dead leaves many living in fear of how much time they have before that happens. Questions like what important things did I do with the time I was given? Greatly affect what it means to be human in a case to case way. It can cause some to look at time as a way to monitor their progress on the way to a goal and try to make as many advancements as possible. To others it can loom over them like a cloud and…
