Crime is committed every day, some types more than others. Researchers try to find the reasons behind why certain offenders commit violent crimes and others don’t commit violent offenses. It can stem from genetic makeup, or it can be the way the child was brought up. Thousands of young children are injured or killed by parents or other family members annually either physically or mentally. In the United States there are reports of children with billions of dollars in related medical costs. The word abuse can have a very broad meaning; The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Administration defines child abuse as; any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker. This can result in serious injury, emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation or even death ("Child Maltreatment 2010 – Data Tables | Children 's Bureau | Administration for Children and Families," 2010).
Child sexual abuse has been reported up to 80,000 times a year, but unfortunately the number of unreported instances greater. Children sometimes are afraid to tell anyone what has happened to them and legal process of reporting can also be very difficult. Problems like these should be identified; the child should be protected or taken from the home so the abuse and stop, and the child should receive professional help.
