Computers were once thought of as a passing fad or a niche hobby, but today computers play a very integral part in our lives. By definition a computer is an electronic device used for storing and processing data which is usually in a binary form. This definition may sound very simplistic, but computers are actually extremely powerful tools that drive society as we know it today. Cars, cellular phones, and even certain refrigerators all run on some sort of computer system. Computers can do amazing things, but by themselves they do not do much. A program is a set of instructions that tells the computer what to do/process, and without these programs computers would not be able to do much if anything at all. Many people use computers every day without any knowledge of how programs, and while a person does not need to have an extensive understanding of programming to operate a computer it is still very helpful and practical to have some basic coding skills. Computer programming/coding is a worthwhile skill to learn because it’s empowering and gratifying, it teaches you to be a problem solver, and it’s very useful for real world applications.
Learning a computer language not only teaches you how to better operate and understand your computer, but it also gives you an immense sense of accomplishment.
