“There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails.” That quote from Nancy Kassebaum explains just how important it is for technology to be integrated into the learning process. On the other hand, if we were to remove textbooks from the classroom will not make it easier to learn but rather more difficult. Many small and large schools have already switched over to tablets for all of their school work. Muller Road Middle School of South Carolina has gone paperless and Burlington High School of Massachusetts has pledged to stop buying books. Student’s textbooks should not be replaced by tablets. Technology can be distracting from the learning process. The advantages that the technology gives the students is often what is distracting them. We all know the saying “there’s an app for that” meaning there is an application for almost anything you can think of including games, videos, email, and other entertainment. These applications in the long run could set back their development. Tablets have many expenses involved with the proper usage that are unnecessary to the learning experience. According to ProCon.org, tablets require costly Wi-Fi networks and many families don’t have the money to spend on the internet (“Tablets”). Plus, a smooth, constant connection would have to be used for the school work to be worked on. Another issue is technical support.…
