3,000 Lives Lost September 11, 2011 – a day of great tragedy. More than 3,000 innocent Americans lost their lives at the hands of terrorists. Those terrorists gave no thought to the victims’ potential, no thought of their families, and certainly no thought to the preciousness of life. Every day, another tragedy occurs that ends the same number of innocent lives, this tragedy is abortion. According to Merriam-Webster.com, abortion is the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. Today, there is a heated argument on whether abortion should remain legal, or become illegal. However abortion should be illegal. The termination of a pregnancy is the murder of an innocent life, painful, and the lasting physical and emotional effects on the mother are astounding.
Abortion is murder. Plain and simple. There are counter arguments to this, one being that there is no law to specifically say when life begins. In turn, there is no law that states when the protection of that life is to begin. Some people believe that life begins at birth, but basic science proves that theory wrong. Basic science clearly proves that life begins at conception. According to Pro-life Across America, a mere 18 days after conception the fetus’s heart begins to beat, and at 28 days after conception the fetus has eyes, ears, tongue, and is developing muscles along the spine.
