Experiencing computer science and mathematics at BC has inspired me and sparked a passion. I take so much pride in my study of Math and Computer Science because I can see the need and potential for computer scientists, mathematicians, and engineers in society; they are essential. One of my first realizations of this was through the Mcnair Exploratory Program. An undergraduate research program; Mcnair 's goal is to give underrepresented minorities a chance to experience research under the supervision of a faculty Mentor. My research of transcendental numbers in economics taught me how computers can play a huge role in most academic areas. My research was a way for me to tie computer science into a research topic based on math and social science; this research turned out to be a major enlightening experience of freshman year.
I also have a passion for tutoring and guiding others. I volunteered as a tutor at Saint Mary 's bridge Home through the PULSE program this year. Working with a population of disenfranchised youth at Saint mary 's center taught me one key lesson that I would like to bring to the Student Technology Specialist position; Computer Science and Math is for everyone. No matter who it is or what type of school system they have been subjected to, If you have a passion you can lean. Wrestling with STEM study alongside these children taught me the only thing between perceived ‘STEM people’ and ‘regular people’ is fictitious; any one can learn with passion. As an…
